The story deals with a ghost from Oldbury in Birmingham England having been murdered and who is currently residing in an abandoned building where he has been for a considerable period of time. The story has been given an internet caution warning, and although you might find it hard to believe, there are a number of people that have become convinced in this theory and there is some disturbing evidence that a few posters on the forum were pretending to be experienced mediums. Many people took the story on face value and some theories provided on the message forum could be regarded as disturbing. These were not from the 'ghost' Michael Pennington but mainly from the 'human' element of the forum visitors who were working themselves up into a frenzy and demanding answers. The forum operators shut down the Message Forums as a result. The nature of the visitors to this particular forum could be regarded as obsessive and a subject perhaps for a pyschology book. The ghost of Michael Pennington continually attempted to tactfully re-assure visitors that his accounts or memoirs as they were called, were a story, and that he had a global mission. What makes this an interesting case is that the whole concept of the account being told from the perspective of the ghost who communicates with the living via computer and the internet. A fascinating thought and one that might lead to further debate on this possibility of supernatural liaison by technology. As with any internet forum there were a hard core of people who started off pretty friendly enough and then gradually proceeded to make demands, hassle new visitors and the site administrators, who may or may not have been involved in the story. The Message Forums were closed down on more than one occassion and the actions of a select few caused the cessation of the online story and the driving away of vast numbers of posters. In situations such as these many desperate posters who become obsessed with a topic will look to find blame in others. Posters became irritable and could not rest without having answers. These are the type of people that tend to make and break message forums. They are fickle characters who move around from site to site and cause untold havoc. They tend not to be serious investigators or persons capable of in depth study of a topic and will ask repeated questions without reading the content of a subject properly. All forums have these characters and the Michael Pennington Ghost attracted an large number of such people. Since the book has been published there are claims that Michael Pennington should provide everyone on the original forums with a free copy. There was a free distribution in the form of an e book. Since Michael was driven away with adverse comments and disturbing emails it is unlikely that any free distribution or update will become available. People tend to forget that compilation takes time and effort and in the case of a published hard copy it actually takes money. Just what obligation does Pennington have to those that would not allow him to continue to finish his story? |
